1. Hervé Hannin (Keynote Speaker) - The impacts of climate change on the wine sector, prospective scenarios and adaptation strategy; reflections to serve the future of chenin blanc in Val de Loire and beyond ...
In France, Chenin is currently mainly located in the Loire Valley. Climate change brings many questions that will arise more sharply in the coming years: for example, what technical conditions for the maintenance and development of Chenin Blanc in this area? And in new, different areas, in France and abroad? With what positioning in complementarity or competition of current productions? To initiate this reflection, it is proposed to present the contributions of strategic foresight work conducted since 2014 within the framework of the LACCAVE project of INRA.
An introductory presentation will take stock of the aspects of climate change that are currently observable, its impacts on wine production and the sector and the adaptation pathways that are currently identifiable.
Then the future scenarios will be presented which will clarify the main possible orientations for a sectoral policy of adaptation to climate change.
In the following part, we will present the results of a participatory science experiment conducted with 500 actors in the sector in seven major French vineyards, particularly in the Loire Valley at the beginning of 2019. Preferential strategic orientations were extracted, accompanied by proposals. adapted levers for action in the Loire Valley in particular and for the French vineyard more generally.
Finally, we will present the uses that are currently made by the governance of the sector and public authorities to propose a national strategic framework on the one hand and to associate other wine-growing countries concerned by the problem on the other hand.
In conclusion and as a topic of debate, we will open on the questions which stem from it more specifically on the Chenin blanc and the means to apprehend its perspectives of future in this context.
2. Isabelle Lajeunesse - The ajustment of viticulture to climate change in the Center-Val de Loire region: the co-construction of ajustment scenarios
In the Center - Val de Loire region, the main challenge is the modification of the characteristics of the wines in relation to the temperature increase. If scientific knowledge on the adaptation of viticulture is developed today, their implementation in the vineyards of the Center - Val de Loire remains largely to be built.
The issue identified by the CLIMENVI project of integrating climate change into the decisions of wineproducing entrepreneurs is part of the "Climate Change" priority of the European Partnership for Innovation. In this context, the project aims to propose a climate change adaptation scenario appropriated by the actors of the regional viticultural sector.
To do this, a work is carried out with 3 pilot vineyards of the project with which, after a presentation of the impacts of climate change, adaptation scenarios are co-constructed. They will then be presented to other winemakers as well as representatives of the regional sector to validate these scenarios and discuss the possibilities of extension on a larger scale.
3. Vicente Sotés - Ajustment of viticulture to climate change in the Mediterranean region: a spatial analysis
Chenin is not cultivated in Spain but reference is made to the synonymy of a local variety, 'Agudelo', located in Galicia, that is to say at the northwestern end of the Iberian Peninsula. However, Spain has a climatic gradient from its Atlantic ocean front to the typically Mediterranean climate with several levels of aridity. After a presentation of the Mediterranean problems of viticulture, the study explains why the part of the peninsula considered as an Atlantic region in Spain could be conducive to Chenin culture.
